Use Advanced Carbons
A solid material to advance many industries
At the end of the SkyNano process, CO2 emissions are transformed into high-performance multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). SkyNano carbon nanotubes present a perfect opportunity to achieve performance improvements at consumer-relevant prices across a range of industries, which have not previously been attainable with the existing carbon nanotube market.
This high performance material has many uses such as:
- SkyNano has demonstrated a 60% performance improvement at high rates of charge 2-3C with just a 10% replacement of currently-used carbon black with our MWCNTs.
- Increase performance, improve rate capability, and increase energy density of lithium-ion batteries.
- Our carbon nanotubes are currently in development with a variety of domestic and international battery companies.
- MWCNTs have long been viewed as an ideal material for many automotive components: longer-lasting fuel-efficient tires, lightweight high-strength composite parts for automotive interiors, and ultra-tough rubber components for increased wear-resistance.
- Increasingly, lithium-ion battery range and rate capability have become very important to the electric vehicle experience, and are addressable by carbon nanotubes.
- We have existing efforts incorporating our carbon nanomaterials into polymer composites that are suitable for a wide range of automotive components.
- 10% of annual emissions in the US are attributable to the embodied carbon in buildings, and yet commercial and residential square footage is projected to increase by over 30% over the next two decades.
- SkyNano’s CO2-derived carbon materials make excellent candidates for sustainable functional materials in composites, membranes, coatings, and more for the built environment.
- SkyNano has active development efforts in many projects related to sustainable buildings: architectural wall panels, concrete additives, conductive multi-functional coatings, and high-performance membranes.
- SkyNano’s core technology is to convert CO2 into gaseous oxygen and solid carbon, which can be a valuable process in space, where CO2 is plentiful (either as astronauts exhaust breath, or from martian atmosphere), and oxygen can be very valuable for astronauts to breathe.
- Carbon nanotubes can be used in in-space manufacturing of critical components, including via additive manufacturing.
- Our flagship product, carbon nanotubes, can also be utilized in a variety of space-related applications ranging from ultra-lightweight composites, to lightweight conductors, multi-functional coatings, and even batteries for space (where we have current projects supported by the US Space Force).
- 78% of consumers feel that sustainability is important when they are making purchasing decisions.
- SkyNano’s CO2-derived carbon materials can provide both improved performance for consumer products AND increased sustainability and lower carbon footprint.
